My Story

At the gathering, during the time of remarks
I was going to tell the whole story
The sad, the rocky, everything
I was going to talk about the overcoming and going on to do amazing things
I thought by telling my story, I’d get glory
Because I’d emphasize the overcoming

But before I told my story, the Lord put some words in me
You’re telling this story, but haven’t checked with the family
Bad feelings towards you this may leave
And your story will cause others to live the past unnecessarily
His words caused me to think and meditate
Telling my story to all is not so great,
And who told me to tell everything anyway?
I remembered the scripture those that exalt them selves shall be abased (Matthew 23:12)

So when the time came to say something
I said nothing, as I would have had a lot to regret
A famous person once said “ some things are better not said”
Thanks Lord for giving me restraint.

Insight
Think before you speak.  Know your audience before you speak. Some things may need to be told, but be careful who you tell them to.  And make sure you are telling it to benefit them and not you.

Undivided Attention

Went to Bible study and no sooner than I taken my seat
I heard the cellphone’s email beep
Before I could check the details
The Spirit’s voice said “don’t check that email”

This voice reminded me
Before the app, I carried the Bible and once seated
I gave minister my undivided attention
And now that I got this device
I think I can learn and keep abreast on what’s going on outside

Where’s my undivided attention to God?
Church isn’t even that long
Somehow I just got to look at the phone
Is anything more important than God’s word?
Why let the cellphone disturb?

So glad I listened to the Spirit
And ignored any phone messages
Turned out the lesson was so informative and inspirational
Minister even included testimonials
Thanks Lord for reminding me
To give Your word my undivided attention.

Proverbs 1:5 – A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.

Go Back

Active shooter
I usually hear about it on tv
But this time it was near me
I paused as a deep sadness came over me
Not only for the affected families
Not just because it could have easily been me
But because of the place of where it happened
Many times I’ve been in the same building
As It’s a place of help and healing

As I think over life and the change in things
I’m grateful for all the new conveniences and technology
But I want to see this country go back
Go back to the time when folk could argue and walk away
And be friends again in a few days
Back to when the time when of ending a life never came to mind
Back to seeing churches as sacred and schools as havens
When no institution has to practice active shooter drills
Because folk will adhere to God’s words “thou shall not kill” (Exodus 20:13).
