Reflecting On “Unanswered” Prayers

I was reflecting on how hard I prayed for my spouse to get a job
Household expenses were increasing year after year
It would be great to have financial help
But a job never came despite of how hard I prayed
I got tired of praying about it
It’s not that I gave up on God
It’s that I was just worn out

As I started to accept the circumstances
The Lord allowed my income to increase
Such that my spouse’s job wasn’t even needed
It reminded me of the scripture
I’ve never seen the righteous forsaken or his seed begging bread (Psalm 37:25)
The Lord had already provided the income for which I prayed

You may pray long and hard
And don’t think that God will answer
And sometimes He doesn’t answer directly
Or the way we expect
But take a moment to reflect
If He has already answered your prayers and you don’t realize it yet?

Insight

This weeks praise expression focuses on unanswered prayers. After all, if God is so compassionate, why doesn’t He answer every prayer. There are several answers. It could be that what we are praying for is not in our best interest; as God can see into the future and we can’t. He doesn’t give it to us because what we are praying for can cause harm later on.

Or it could be that he has something better for us. The Bible states that God gives us good gifts (Matthew 7:11 )and all good and perfect comes from Him (James 1:17). He might deny us one thing to only bless us with something bigger and better later on.

And still yet, they are prayers that God never answers or does He? If we take time to reflect and what we’ve asked Him for we may discover that He has already answered our prayer but not the way we wanted Him to.

Slow Down

Last night, my car warning light came on
I planned to get car fixed first thing in the morn
But in the morning found out the place I’d go to went out of business
With limited time, I feverishly started looking up nearby mechanics
Found a place that had the part and was close
Prayed I could drive there without having to be towed

Got there, but I sensed not to trust what they diagnosed
As they wanted me to replace car parts that were not that old
So, I went back to looking for a mechanic feverishly
When I heard a voice say to me
“Slow down, God’s got this
Didn’t He let you make it to first mechanic without breaking down or being towed?
Didn’t He let you drive away without anything being owed?
There’s another means to get to work today
So slow down and enjoy the rest of your day”

Then I calmed down, as this made so much sense
In a couple of days I’d have plenty of time to get car fixed
It makes me want to sing thanks to the Lord
For dealing with me so bountifully. Psalm 13:6

Insight
Sometimes rushing to solve a problem, makes the problem seem bigger than it actually is.
You can also unnecessarily stress yourself out about it.
Slowing down and thinking about alternative ways to solve the problem can lead to the best outcome.

Just A Touch Of Love

Just a touch of love
Does a lot to lift you up
To see a familiar face you haven’t seen in a while
Can really make you smile
Even a smile or greetings from someone never seen
Can make your heart merry
And don’t mention a hug
Nothing can heal like the human touch
One phone call can change your whole demeanor
And make the rest of your day more exciting and sweeter

The Bible states that love is the greatest gift (1 Corinthians 13:13)
Without it life is meaningless
As you can have health, wealth and all your desired things
But will still feel empty or unhappy
Without belonging to, or cared for by human beings
It’s God’s structuring (1 John 4:7-8)
And he loves each us unconditionally
So, express love today, it doesn’t have to be much
All it takes is just a touch.
