The Church Gave Me A Life

Wanna go to the evening church service I was asked
My first response was no, as I had planned to do something else
And besides, for decades, I spent nearly every Sunday in church all day
My whole life revolved around the church
And what about the things I missed because I was in church?
So, at that moment I thought I had spent enough time in church
I gave the church my life. Or did I?

And then I thought, what has the church done for me?
Well, let’s see
The church taught me to love and forgive
It taught me to have empathy for people
And to do good works to alleviate human suffering
With the church I visited the sick, those in prison
Visited other members for fellowship and fun
With responsibility of helping with church meals,
I learned to chop, cut, mix, and make food from scratch
And I learned to travel. My very first airplane flight was church based
Then I went with the church across the country

So, it’s not that I gave the church my life
The church gave me a life
I should never be too busy to go to the church
I should love the church like Christ loved the church.

Living A Dream

It wasn’t serious enough to be a prayer
So I say it was more like a remote dream or fantasy
I’d pass by the place, see all the crowds
Later on I’d hear the fireworks, and cheers
I would think about how on a hot summer night
The ballpark seem like the perfect place to be
Yet, no one I knew wanted to share this experience with me
So it was a dream unlikely to become a reality

Then, this year out of nowhere
Came the opportunity
And it was all at no cost to me
And I’d have enthusiastic company

So as I sat there on this perfect summer night
Marveling in the ambience, the food and the game
I thought about how such a simple experience can be so enjoyable
But some of the most simplest things are the most enjoyable parts of life
And God just doesn’t answers prayers
He let us experience our desires and live our dreams.
Scripture References
Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. The Lord not only answers our prayers, but He also allows us to experience the things we desire or just dream about.

Psalm. 16:11. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. It’s a blessing just to enjoy life or at least have a day with no worries.

Just Smile

They’re coming this way
To them I don’t know what to say
They act like they don’t care I even exist
As they never acknowledged my presence
So, should I just look away as they pass?
Pretending to be distracted?
This way I won’t have to make eye contact
But pretending is going to be so rude
They’ll clearly see I’m not busy
So, in just a few seconds before they arrive
I turned my head towards them and just smiled

And lo and behold they smiled warmly back
And nodded their head as to say hello
That one smile broke the ice
I was going to be rude, but decided to be nice
I learned even when you have nothing to say
Just smile
