Go Back

Active shooter
I usually hear about it on tv
But this time it was near me
I paused as a deep sadness came over me
Not only for the affected families
Not just because it could have easily been me
But because of the place of where it happened
Many times I’ve been in the same building
As It’s a place of help and healing

As I think over life and the change in things
I’m grateful for all the new conveniences and technology
But I want to see this country go back
Go back to the time when folk could argue and walk away
And be friends again in a few days
Back to when the time when of ending a life never came to mind
Back to seeing churches as sacred and schools as havens
When no institution has to practice active shooter drills
Because folk will adhere to God’s words “thou shall not kill” (Exodus 20:13).

Torn Over Giving

The urgent agonizing plead for money
Makes you wonder why the need
Wondering if they are really hurting
Or are old habits resurfacing

Know there was an addiction before
But they claim it is no more
And you see the cleanliness
And don’t want to contribute to a relapse mess

What if I gave and it went to a relapse?
What if I don’t give and there’s a genuine medical lack?
The Bible says judge not (Luke 6:37)
But you have to use judgement
You don’t want to feed the addiction
But you don’t want to deprive of medical attention

So, how to come to a decision?
When being torn over giving
I look to follow Solomon’s lead (1 Kings 3:9)
And ask God to instill wisdom in me
So that I can have an understanding heart
And give, but not in away to help the problem restart.

Love Them No Matter What

You plant seeds of wisdom and goodness and watch them grow
They are so darling when they’re little
You pray they can reach maturity
Exceeding all your hopes and dreams

But along the way, they go astray
And won’t grow your envisioned way
On them should you give up?
No.  Love them no matter what

All life is in God’s hands (Psalm 23:1)
And to love one another is His command ( John 13:34)
Think about you, no matter what you did
God allowed you to repent
And He showed His love again and again.
Isaiah 49:15 -Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Matthew 18:22 – Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
