Just Pray

With just about everything closed, seems like time just wasting away
Woke up one morning and asked, Lord, what it is you’ll have me to do today
He answered – just pray

• Pray for the people in the hospital with no one at their side
• Pray for the families grieving for members who’ve died
• Pray for those who have to stand in food lines
• Pray for those without income during these times
• Pray for medical personnel and other front line people
• Pray for the government and the leaders
It will take energy, it will take all day, but
Just pray

Jesus went to the mountain and prayed all night (Luke 6:12)
So if the Son of God can spend all night to pray
You can spend all day
Then be still and meditate
Listen for my voice on ideas for next steps to take.

Insight
I thought what am I doing to help during this pandemic. With the need to keep distance, I couldn’t see a role. Then I began to feel like I was useless. So one morning as I opened my eyes, I asked the Lord how could I be useful and purposeful. And He said pray. Just simply praying won’t put you in the forefront of noticeable activity but prayer will result in noticeable positive change. Sometimes it may seem prayer is useless because results don’t always come right away. But past experience and the Bible tells us otherwise. Below is some of what the Bible says:

Prayer will result in a cure and healing. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Pray without ceasing. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 it says pray without ceasing. So it’s nothing to have an all day prayer session. It is so many things to pray about and so many people to pray for.

Prayer is stronger together. Jesus said where two or three are gathered together, He will be in the midst. So, it’s good to get a prayer partner, or prayer group.

Some things come about by nothing but prayer and fasting. A lot of problems and situations and sickness can be fixed only by God. He is the creator of the earth and human kind. He wants us to know the He is our great and compassionate father. Therefore, He wants us to ask a Him for what we need. Jesus said in Mark 9:29 that somethings get resolved only through prayer and fasting.

Pray effectually. Not only does pray takes time, it takes sincerity and fervency. James 5:26 says the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Good News

Received such good news on this Easter

Of surgical recoveries and hospital releases

Due to quarantines we couldn’t physically meet

But folk still cooked and enjoyed feasts

And dressed up to celebrate resurrection of Jesus

Reminding us this pandemic won’t defeat us

Because God still hearing our pleas and prayers

While the grim news still remains on tv

Of the loss of lives and economies

In the middle of one of the world’s worst tragedies

It’s good news when an email is received

That all is well with friends and family

True to the words in Psalm 46

God has been our refuse and strength

And one day, I hope soon

This pandemic will pass through

And the whole world will have good news.

The Real Sustainer

Before The pandemic made us shelter in place

I usually sought out stuff with which to participate or be entertained

Thought it was needed for a healthy mind to be sustained

As socialization and entertainment help relieve stress and strain

I would say If it wasn’t for these activities to do or events to attend

So boring would be the time I spend

Idle time would let negative thoughts creep in

Like thinking on past mistakes or some type of sin

And now that in-person recreation and entertainment has disappeared

God has let me know the real sustainer is Him

He is providing everything I need

And showing me other ways to occupy my mind and keep busy

And I’m still connected to thing I used to do

Thanks to new online avenues

It reminds me of the words in Psalm 37:25

…I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread…

Stuff I thought was keeping me, were a false sense of security

It is God that keeps,  He’s the real sustainer of my needs.
