Finish Line

The goal is set

Now it’s just a matter of getting to the finish line

It’s a matter of staying focused

While running the course of reaching that goal

But challenges and obstacles get in the way

May not have the resources to even enter the race

But God can provide a sponsorship

Matthew 7:7 says ask and it shall be given you

Once you’ve entered the race

You may not have cheerleaders on the sidelines

But stay the course because

…they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint (Isaiah 40:31)

It’s not so much competing against others

And having something that they don’t

It’s a matter of reaching your own goal

During the course

The race may be more strenuous than thought

The miles seem longer

The pavement seems harder

But stay focused

Proverbs 4:25 says let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee

Look straight ahead, don’t think about past failures

Galatians 6:9 says And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not

Because When You get tired God will give you a burst of energy

When You wanna quit, He’ll give you the motivation to keep going

If something gets in your path, He’ll remove it

He’ll help you stay laser focused on the finish line

And at the end you can say I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith ( 2 Timothy 4:7).

The Church Gave Me A Life

Wanna go to the evening church service I was asked
My first response was no, as I had planned to do something else
And besides, for decades, I spent nearly every Sunday in church all day
My whole life revolved around the church
And what about the things I missed because I was in church?
So, at that moment I thought I had spent enough time in church
I gave the church my life. Or did I?

And then I thought, what has the church done for me?
Well, let’s see
The church taught me to love and forgive
It taught me to have empathy for people
And to do good works to alleviate human suffering
With the church I visited the sick, those in prison
Visited other members for fellowship and fun
With responsibility of helping with church meals,
I learned to chop, cut, mix, and make food from scratch
And I learned to travel. My very first airplane flight was church based
Then I went with the church across the country

So, it’s not that I gave the church my life
The church gave me a life
I should never be too busy to go to the church
I should love the church like Christ loved the church.

Just Smile

They’re coming this way
To them I don’t know what to say
They act like they don’t care I even exist
As they never acknowledged my presence
So, should I just look away as they pass?
Pretending to be distracted?
This way I won’t have to make eye contact
But pretending is going to be so rude
They’ll clearly see I’m not busy
So, in just a few seconds before they arrive
I turned my head towards them and just smiled

And lo and behold they smiled warmly back
And nodded their head as to say hello
That one smile broke the ice
I was going to be rude, but decided to be nice
I learned even when you have nothing to say
Just smile
