Living With Remorse

If your heart is right
You will feel remorseful for any wrong you’ve done
But once you have asked for forgiveness 1
And changed your ways
Should you be living with remorse?
I don’t think so, especially if God doesn’t hold sin against you anymore 2

But sometimes the negative past creeps in your mind
And over and over replays your sin
Many times the past can’t be fixed
Yet, the mind wants to bring up bad memories and past enemies
Against this, what are the remedies?

Accept God’s forgiveness for your sins and then forgive yourself
Focus on life in the present and future
Remind yourself of the good deeds you’ve done
Engage in activities that bring you joy and laughter
Talk to someone about past mistakes if it’s therapeutic
And seek other things that will put living with remorse behind you.

Scripture references:
1 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
2
Jeremiah 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

I Am So Sorry

My focus should have been on You
And what You’d have me to do
Instead, I focused on myself
And forgot how much I was blessed
I am so sorry

Is it anything I can say or do?
That would make me right with You?
You gave all that I did need
But I got consumed with greed
I wanted to do things my way
I didn’t wait to hear what You had to say
And for that
I am so sorry

Nothing I did prospered
Because I didn’t see You first
How I long to be forgiven
I really need a new start in living
I pray for a new way
I am so sorry for my deeds
Forgive me Lord please.

Scripture Reference: Psalm 51

Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Psalm 51:2-3
