Against The Odds

You should have been withered and gone
The elements that nurture you have moved on
But you are vibrant and standing strong
So why are you lasting so long?
Even your color hasn’t changed
Is all this strange?

Or is it due to the power of God?
He can let us stand against the odds
When nature says we should fall
God will allow us to stand tall
When from normal channels we are not nourished
God can still allow us to flourish

So, the days of sunshine can be few
Forecast can show no rain or dew
The wind can go from warm to cold
Yet, the plant will not wilt or fold
Like the plant against the odds
We can withstand any condition with the help of God.

2018

2018
Another year the Lord has created
Let us rejoice and start celebrating
A fresh start the Lord has gave us

Some of us made resolutions to alter our ways
Some are looking forward to major change
Like a new job, car, school or house
Or even a spouse
Some want to try a new adventure or vacation in a new place
Others seek to reconcile with or visit a long, lost, face
Still others plan nothing special, will take it day by day

So, what will 2018 really bring?
Will it be the fulfillment of hopes and dreams?
Or tragedies unforeseen?
It is yet to be seen
But what is certain is God’s mercies
They will renew every morning

While the year is new, God is as He’s always been
We can keep on praying, thanking and praising Him
As the same merciful God will be listening
And no matter what 2018 brings
To our Lord will can still cling—for everything.

Scripture reference – Psalms 118

Watch Your Mouth

Everything was peaceful
decided to go even though I didn’t want to
eventually something was said
then up popped the bad attitude
And my tongue became unruly

The spirit convicted me right away
No matter whom I’m talking to, watch what you say
“I’m sorry “ should have come out my mouth
But I was too proud
Spirit then said If you can’t say I’m sorry
do something nice
And until I did, I wasn’t feeling right

Thanks Lord for your convicting spirit
That didn’t let me be comfortable
For saying words so harmful
You showed me how to express being sorrowful
And reminded me to watch my mouth.

Insight

In James 3:6-11, it talks about how the tongue is such as small part of the body, yet has such a powerful impact on our lives. Words can hurt more than physical wounds. And unlike physical wounds which heal, words can cause permanent emotionally damage. Folk can stay mad at each other for life. So, watch what you say.
