Go Back

Active shooter
I usually hear about it on tv
But this time it was near me
I paused as a deep sadness came over me
Not only for the affected families
Not just because it could have easily been me
But because of the place of where it happened
Many times I’ve been in the same building
As It’s a place of help and healing

As I think over life and the change in things
I’m grateful for all the new conveniences and technology
But I want to see this country go back
Go back to the time when folk could argue and walk away
And be friends again in a few days
Back to when the time when of ending a life never came to mind
Back to seeing churches as sacred and schools as havens
When no institution has to practice active shooter drills
Because folk will adhere to God’s words “thou shall not kill” (Exodus 20:13).

Losing & Regaining Joy

Don’t let the devil cause you to lose your joy (Ephesians 4:27)
You’ve been down this wrong path before
Don’t lash out at others with your tongue (James 3:8)
As it may ruin relationships and leave you alone
Keep calm even though a lot going wrong
The sun will burst through the clouds in awhile
And and you’ll regain joy and smiles.

Fire The Envy

They’re having more fun than me – – it seems
I wanna do what their doing, have what they have
I was happy with what the Lord gave to me
Until I see what others have now I’m not happy (Exodus 20:17)
What causes these types of feelings?

It was an old saying, on the other side grass is more green
And, it seems that way when you lose focus on your own blessings
If God gave you exactly what you were asking
And instead of being thankful; to others you are comparing
Then, God’s blessings you are not appreciating
You’re being envious of others instead of celebrating

While there is always going to be others with more prosperity
Yet, there are still others who wished they had the blessings God bestowed on me
So, I need to fire the envy
And focus and rejoice on what God has given me.
