A Split-Second

In a split-second misfortune came
As she went from consciousness to unable to speak her name
I witnessed it, the freak accident
It’s something one hears about in news or on tv
But rarely if ever see
In a split second you can be at strangers and God’s mercy

As we waited for medics to arrive
The accident reminded me
To double down in thanking God for safety
When you leave home, you don’t know
What dangers or events may unfold

So, whether it’s just a simple walk to someplace
If I return home safe
I’m saying thank You Lord
Can’t never thank or praise God too much
Or let our thanks become mundane
Cause in a split-second life can change.

Advice From Others

I can plan events pretty fast
But I need others to execute my plan
So, what looks like will work perfectly for me
May not work at all for those whose help I need

In the days when I lacked maturity
I would ignore advice from others
As I’d think I had all bases covered
Only to find out later that my plan was full of blunders

Sometimes God doesn’t talk to us directly
Sometimes for guidance, there is no specific scripture to read
He gives us protection through the advice from others
It’s up to us to take and digest their advice
And not to think we are always right.

Insight
Proverbs 19:20 says Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. When planning events or making decisions that will impact others, it’s good to run the plans by someone(s). Perhaps you left out an important detail, or perhaps what you are planning may not be the best thing to do at this time. In any event, God puts people in our lives for guidance and instruction. Even if you are a smart person or good at what you do, don’t ignore the counsel of others.

Slow Down

Last night, my car warning light came on
I planned to get car fixed first thing in the morn
But in the morning found out the place I’d go to went out of business
With limited time, I feverishly started looking up nearby mechanics
Found a place that had the part and was close
Prayed I could drive there without having to be towed

Got there, but I sensed not to trust what they diagnosed
As they wanted me to replace car parts that were not that old
So, I went back to looking for a mechanic feverishly
When I heard a voice say to me
“Slow down, God’s got this
Didn’t He let you make it to first mechanic without breaking down or being towed?
Didn’t He let you drive away without anything being owed?
There’s another means to get to work today
So slow down and enjoy the rest of your day”

Then I calmed down, as this made so much sense
In a couple of days I’d have plenty of time to get car fixed
It makes me want to sing thanks to the Lord
For dealing with me so bountifully. Psalm 13:6

Insight
Sometimes rushing to solve a problem, makes the problem seem bigger than it actually is.
You can also unnecessarily stress yourself out about it.
Slowing down and thinking about alternative ways to solve the problem can lead to the best outcome.
