Encourage, But Don’t Push

I tell them how they can get ahead again and again
By making a temporary investment in current living
I wonder do they listen at all
Maybe not, because when in trouble,
they know on someone they can call
Or do they listen and just can’t execute
Because the plan of action is too hard for them to do
The plan of action, I don’t want to keep repeating
Because I just wanna encourage, but not push them

But at what point does encouragement becomes pushing?
Is it when they become defensive or angry at what you say?
Just about everyone wants to do things their own way
And even though their way doesn’t lead to better conditions
Regarding change, they are reluctant to listen
Be sure encouragement is for right reasons
Like fulfilling their potential or and dreams
Instead of what you plan or want for them
An even if they disappoint or don’t get far
Love them for who they are
As God has His purpose for their life.

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Small Savory Bites

I try to read a devotional everyday. Some devotionals are short. When that’s the case, I read at least two of them. But after I would read at least two of them, I noticed the message didn’t really sink in. I’d be asking myself what did I learn today?

I remember a deacon that used to teach us, would have us read the Bible in small sections; like two or three sentences at a time. If we would read fast, he’d stop us. He wanted to make sure we absorbed and understood what we had just read and how we would apply it to our lives.

Reading small portions of scripture is like taking small portions of food and and chewing them well. I can really taste the flavors when I take small bites. Psalms 119:103 says “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

Like enjoying food, I can enjoy scripture and interpret what the Lord is saying when I take small savory bites.

End With Something Funny

Like moisturizing my skin or brushing my teeth

I’ve added this thing  to my nightly routine

Somehow it helps me with relaxing

Or, maybe it just helps me forget any daytime negativity

Or, maybe it gives me better sleep or dreams

I make it my business to end my night with something funny

I look at least one monologue from a Late Night hosts show

Then scroll Facebook or YouTube for funny videos

A good laugh  goes deep in your body,

Then, you feel joyful for a while time afterwards

Proverbs 17:22 says A merry heart doeth good like a medicine…

And seeing something funny is a good way for every night to end.
