Small Savory Bites

I try to read a devotional everyday. Some devotionals are short. When that’s the case, I read at least two of them. But after I would read at least two of them, I noticed the message didn’t really sink in. I’d be asking myself what did I learn today?

I remember a deacon that used to teach us, would have us read the Bible in small sections; like two or three sentences at a time. If we would read fast, he’d stop us. He wanted to make sure we absorbed and understood what we had just read and how we would apply it to our lives.

Reading small portions of scripture is like taking small portions of food and and chewing them well. I can really taste the flavors when I take small bites. Psalms 119:103 says “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

Like enjoying food, I can enjoy scripture and interpret what the Lord is saying when I take small savory bites.

Scripture reference:
Psalm 119:103
