The Ultimate Position

It was so exciting initially
Was frequently asked in 5 years where do you want to be?
Not sure, maybe in the position that is above me
Just continue to work hard and see
The myth of the future was intriguing
But the real position I wanted ultimately
Was to collect an income sufficient to live comfortably
And still have the strength and energy
To go where I want and do things leisurely

I wanted someday to not have to get up or to sleep late
Not have to get out in snow or rain
And fight through cars and pedestrians
To be in a certain time at a certain place
What would it be like to work or play at your own pace
But even after working decades
It didn’t seem the ultimate position I could attain
Because of the financial mistakes I had made

So fervently I began to pray
That God would forgive me for my mistakes
And let me enjoy the ultimate position some day
Fast forward, my God is great I can say
For He heard my prayers and made the way
So now I have extra time to give Him thanks and praise
For His mercy endures always

Scripture Reference: Ecclesiastes 3:1
Background
I was excited to start my career. The mystery of what lied ahead in terms of a higher position or earning x number of dollars intrigued me. But as time when on, the excitement wore off. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says there are seasons in life. So there are seasons to work and seasons not to work. So after several decades of working I desired the ultimate position of being a retiree. But I had made several terrible financial choices that were preventing this from being possible. After much fervent prayer, my merciful heavenly Father overlooked my mistakes and made a way for me to get to the ultimate position.

Thanks For Determination

Well, the results were far worse than I was expecting
Major action is needed immediately
Or other negative things will start happening
It’s going to be a long hard road to improving
But I can’t sit here and start worrying
I feel like fighting, got a new boost of energy
Lord, thanks for determination to beat this thing

Years ago, I beat this problem before
And thought it was still under control
So not using my best judgement
I did things that I shouldn’t have
And let the effects go unchecked
A decision I regret,
So, thanks for determination to get it correct

I’m determined to get back the old me
Or at least an improvement of what’s currently
Thank you Lord for leading me to think on a new strategy
Getting my chart ready
Going track my progress daily
Starting tomorrow bright and early
As I can do all thing through Christ that strengthens me.

Scripture Reference: Philippians 4:13
Background

I thought I had beat this problem for good. But it has sneaked up on me again and this time it is worse than before. Granted my habits of not keeping it in check contributed to it coming back. But I am more determined than ever to get back in good condition. One of the things that keep me going is knowing that I conquered this problem before. I’m very motivated to win again. It’s harder now because I’m much older but I got to still believe I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

A Better Way of Eating

I didn’t eat it
But it was hard to resist
My body wanted to take that kitchen trip
But the food I could stand to miss

Not that it was bad, it’s just not in the best interest for me
As I strive to be more healthy
Wanna ditch the pills and do it naturally
Lord, thanks for helping stick to a better way of eating

Some foods I grew up on, I don’t eat no more
And don’t season food as heavy as before
And new cooking methods I’ve started to explore
Added new things to the diet too
Like snacking on more nuts and fruits
Even put in a request to a company
To make my favorite snack more healthy
Lord, thanks for will power for a better way to eat.

Scripture Reference: Matthew 26:41, Psalm 139: 14
Background
Certain foods sure look and smell good especially when you are trying to avoid them. But in order to keep the blessing of good health, we have to eat what is good for our bodies. After all, Psalm 139:14 tells us our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made. And through prayer, God helps us to avoid temptation. Matthew 26:41 tell us to watch and pray that we enter into temptation because the flesh is weak.
